The New H2D / H2S / P2S Family Explained
Bambu Lab's H2D, H2S, and P2S printers share a hotend platform that is designed for higher flow, higher temperature, and faster nozzle changes than the older A1 and P1 series. The hotend uses a quick-swap design that lets you change nozzles without tools, and the surrounding assembly is engineered to handle demanding materials.
Because the platform is newer, third-party parts availability is more limited. The good news: Proevove already makes hardened steel hotend assemblies in 0.2mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm, and 0.8mm sizes that are direct-fit for the H2D, H2S, and P2S.
Stock Hotend vs Hardened Steel: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
If you stick to PLA, PETG, and standard materials, the stock hotend is fine. The moment you load carbon-fibre, glow-in-the-dark, wood-filled, glass-fibre, or metal composites, a brass nozzle wears within hours and your print quality starts to drift.
A hardened steel hotend upgrade resists that wear dramatically. For users who print abrasive filaments even occasionally, the upgrade pays for itself in nozzle replacements saved. The Proevove 0.4mm and 0.6mm hardened steel hotends for the H2D, H2S, and P2S come with a quick-swap nozzle and an extruded aluminium heatsink for better heat dissipation.
- Stock hotend is fine for PLA, PETG, and standard filaments.
- Hardened steel is essential for carbon-fibre, glow, and metal composites.
- Quick-swap nozzles make material changes fast.
- An extruded aluminium heatsink reduces heat creep on long prints.
Available Nozzle Sizes for H2D / H2S / P2S
Proevove offers the full range for this family: 0.2mm for ultra-fine detail, 0.4mm for everyday prints, 0.6mm for high-flow and stronger walls, and 0.8mm for thick layers and large functional parts. All four sizes use the same quick-swap mounting, so you can swap nozzles between prints without tools.
For most users, 0.4mm and 0.6mm cover the widest range of jobs. Keep a 0.2mm on hand for miniatures and detailed prototypes, and a 0.8mm for big functional parts where print speed matters more than fine detail.
Why a Silicone Sock Matters on H2D
The H2D's higher flow and longer print sessions put more heat through the hotend than a typical hobby printer. A silicone sock shields the heater block from molten plastic residue and soot, keeps the block cleaner, and reduces the chance of PLA or PETG sticking to the heater block during a heat creep event.
The Proevove silicone sock for H2D, A1, and A1 Mini is heat-resistant and slim-fit for the H2D hotend geometry. It installs in seconds and is cheap insurance against the most common cause of mid-print stringing on the H2D family.
Quick-Swap Nozzle Maintenance
The H2D / H2S / P2S quick-swap design makes nozzle changes far easier than older Bambu hotends. Power off and let the hotend cool, then twist the nozzle to release it. A cold pull through the heatbreak clears any remaining residue before the new nozzle goes in.
Because hardened steel is harder than brass, take care not to over-tighten the nozzle — a firm hand-tight fit is enough. Inspect the nozzle opening under magnification every few spools of abrasive filament and replace when you see ovaling or visible wear.
- Power off and cool fully before any nozzle change.
- Twist to release — no tools needed.
- Run a cold pull before installing the new nozzle.
- Inspect the nozzle opening periodically for wear.
How to Install a Proevove H2D / H2S / P2S Hotend
Remove the existing hotend assembly following the Bambu Lab service procedure for the H2D family. The Proevove hardened steel hotend is a direct-fit replacement, so the swap is mechanical: remove, replace, reconnect the wiring harness, and refit any housing parts.
After installation, run a cold pull to confirm clean extrusion. Update your slicer to the new nozzle diameter and adjust layer height and line width to match. Test with a small print before committing to a long job.
Recommended Proevove Hotends for H2D / H2S / P2S
For most H2D, H2S, and P2S owners, a 0.4mm hardened steel hotend covers everyday printing and opens the door to abrasive filaments. Add a 0.6mm assembly if you print large functional parts and want higher flow, and pair the hotend with the Proevove silicone sock for H2D / A1 / A1 Mini to keep the heater block clean.
