Material Overview
Filament Storage Guide for 3D Printing covers one of the most popular 3D printing materials. Each filament has its own characteristics — print temperature, bed temperature, retraction settings, and ideal print speed — that affect print quality and reliability.
The settings below are starting points. Always check the filament manufacturer's recommendations and tune from there based on your specific printer.
Recommended Temperatures
Temperature is the most important setting. Print too cold and the filament will not bond properly. Print too hot and you will get stringing, blobs, and warped parts.
- Hotend: 190–220 °C for most filaments, higher for composites.
- Bed: 50–60 °C for PLA, 70–80 °C for PETG, 90–100 °C for ABS.
- First layer: 5 °C hotter than the rest of the print for adhesion.
- Dry filament before printing if it has been open for more than a few weeks.
Slicer Settings That Matter
Beyond temperature, a few slicer settings make the biggest difference: print speed, retraction, and cooling. Start with the filament manufacturer's recommended profile and adjust from there.
- Print speed: 40–60 mm/s for the first layer, 60–80 mm/s for the rest.
- Retraction: 0.5–2 mm direct, 2–5 mm Bowden — tune per printer.
- Cooling: 50–100% for PLA, 30–50% for PETG, off for ABS.
- Layer height: 25% to 75% of nozzle diameter.
Common Issues and Fixes
Stringing, blobs, and weak layer adhesion are the most common issues with any filament. The fix usually involves adjusting temperature, retraction, or drying the filament.
A Proevove Bed Adhesive Stick 15g helps with first-layer adhesion. The Proevove Bed Adhesive Stick 15g is built for everyday FDM printing and works across most filament types.
Storage and Drying
Most filaments absorb moisture from the air, which causes popping, stringing, and weak prints. Store filament in sealed bags with desiccant, or in a dry box.
Wet filament can be dried in a dedicated filament dryer or a low-temperature oven (50–60 °C for 4–6 hours). Once dry, prints are dramatically cleaner.
Best Nozzle for This Material
For abrasive or composite versions of this filament, a Proevove Bed Adhesive Stick 15g hardened steel hotend is the right tool. Brass nozzles wear within hours on carbon-fibre, glow, and wood-filled composites. Hardened steel lasts through kilograms.
The Proevove Bed Adhesive Stick 15g is available in 0.2mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm, and 0.8mm sizes for the Bambu Lab A1, A1 Mini, H2D, H2S, and P2S families.
